Fonson is proud to announce 'The Roman Empire' coin series, a beautiful collection that delves into some of the most illustrious chapters of Roman history, depicted in fabulous high relief and personally created by the prize-winning numismatic artist Joaquin Jimenez.

In 218 BC, the audacious Carthaginian general Hannibal executed a daring offensive against the Roman Republic by crossing the Alps. This strategic triumph remains a significant historical event, often studied for its brilliance. Despite his victories, Hannibal ultimately fell short of completely vanquishing Rome. The obverse of the coin shows Hannibal’s formidable War Elephants clashing with Roman soldiers in the dramatic battle scene. The reverse design shows the two adversaries: Hannibal and Scipio Africanus, the famous Roman general who led the Roman army to victory over Carthage.

Always true to Fonson’s legacy, the design of the Battle of Zama coin was meticulously hand-sculpted in plaster, creating a true animated relief, beautifully highlighted by the antique finish.

The face value, the name of the issuing country and the silver weight and alloy are engraved on the reverse.
